Our Projects

Nordic Insights is involved in managing and coordinating several high-profile projects within the context of regional sustainability, bioeconomy, and international forestry cooperation. Their expertise is pivotal in ensuring the success of these initiatives, particularly in fostering cross-border collaboration in the Baltic Sea region and showcasing Nordic leadership in sustainable development.

A dashboard for Food Security in Iceland, soon to be expanded to include other countries. It provides a solid picture of the key elements of food security, their status, and future outlook by analysing three dimensions of food security:

  1. Global Food Markets
  2. Domestic Food Production
  3. Household Food Access and Affordability.

The Dashboard is available on-line in both Icelandic and English versions.

Growing food(ies)

The policy brief also lists concrete activities and relevant actors to enable an effective take-up of the recommendations. This policy brief presents suggests actions across five key recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders in the agri-food and education sectors to reverse the negative trend. These include:

  1. Supporting food-related education from an early age
  2. Highlighting opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship in food systems
  3. Involving youth in shaping resilient food strategies 
  4. Improving attractiveness and showcasing rural opportunities for women and young entrepreneurs
  5. Integrating and supporting migrant labour within the agri-food workforce

Discover our in-depth report on the Regional Differentiation of Agricultural Support—a collaborative effort between Nordic Insights and the Agricultural University of Iceland. This comprehensive analysis explores how agricultural support policies vary across Norway, Sweden, and Finland, and examines the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy framework for regional aid. For Iceland, we’ve mapped every farm using a sophisticated GIS model to assess the potential impact of different policy approaches in each region. The report concludes with clear, actionable policy recommendations tailored for the Icelandic government.

 Agriculture in Iceland: Conditions, Trends and Characteristics (Rit LbhÍ nr. 179, 2025) provides an up-to-date overview of Icelandic farming. The report outlines natural conditions, key production sectors, and the challenges of food self-sufficiency in a harsh northern environment. This report examines how international methods for assessing climate risk can be applied to Icelandic agriculture. It highlights how shifting weather patterns, emerging pests, and supply chain disruptions may affect farming and food security – while also pointing to opportunities from changing growing conditions. By comparing six leading assessment frameworks, the report lays the groundwork for a more targeted adaptation strategy and outlines key next steps for the sector.

Nordic Insights' Role

We are providing expert project management services to ensure smooth coordination, track project outcomes, and ensure alignment with the EU’s broader goals for regional development and sustainability.

This project focuses on providing project management support to the Policy Area Bioeconomy under the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). The Bioeconomy Policy Area works to enhance the sustainable use of renewable biological resources in the region. This includes industries like agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and biotechnology, all aiming to foster a greener, circular economy.

Nordic Insights' Role

We are involved in supporting the organisation of the Nordic Pavilion, coordinating activities, ensuring the visibility of Nordic forestry expertise, and fostering international collaboration during the conference.

The Nordic Pavilion at the IUFRO World Forestry Conference (International Union of Forest Research Organizations) is an initiative to showcase the Nordic countries’ commitment to sustainable forest management and research. The conference in Stockholm (2024) will bring together experts and stakeholders from the global forestry sector.

Nordic Insights' Role

We are providing project management and organizational support to Region Gotland, helping to facilitate the event’s logistics, content development, and stakeholder engagement. Their role is to ensure that the forum runs smoothly and meets its objectives in promoting the EUSBSR’s goals.

The EUSBSR Annual Forum is a key event under the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, aimed at discussing the progress of regional cooperation, exchange of best practices, and addressing challenges in the region. The 2024 edition of the forum will be held in Gotland, Sweden, and it will bring together stakeholders from the Baltic Sea countries to discuss the region’s sustainable development.

Nordic Insights' Role

Nordic Insight provides data and research related to migration trends, integration processes, and public policy across the Nordic region. Such platforms are critical for informing decisions, policies, and practices regarding migration and integration.

Nordic Insight would play a key role in providing comprehensive, data-driven analysis that compares agricultural policies across these regions. By compiling and evaluating key data on subsidies, environmental measures, and rural development strategies, Nordic Insight enables a deeper understanding of the strengths and challenges in Iceland’s agricultural support system.
Agricultural support systems aim to provide financial assistance, subsidies, and policy frameworks to ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of the agricultural sector. These support systems are important not only for economic reasons but also for ensuring food security, environmental sustainability, and rural development.
